These bears were initially made available at the Events in the painting tent so people could use their imagination and try their hand at painting a BTB. Some were completely unpainted, others were covered with a cream undercoat to help speed up the process of painting a bear. The first of these were not meant to leave the paint tent but some managed to escape. In later years, these were sold at the events for people to paint there or to take home and paint later. BTB even sold a paint set which included 3 whiteware bears, and they later sold a few of the whiteware bears on their website. Whiteware bears were also included in the original series of Collectors Edition Sets.
